  Dr. Nneka T. Breaux
Nneka T. Breaux (formerly Hanshaw), a Mississippi native, graduated Magna cum laude from Spelman College in Atlanta, GA with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry.  After finishing Spelman in May of 1997, she accepted the opportunity to pursue her doctorate in Synthetic Organic Chemistry at Purdue University in West Lafayette , IN.   After receiving her Ph.D. in May 2003 from Purdue, Dr. Breaux began her career as a chemist in Discovery Research at Dow AgroSciences in Indianapolis , IN.   Dr. Breaux has tutored and mentored students ranging from elementary – aged to adult learners and has volunteered for National Chemistry Week and the “Kids-n-Chemistry” series at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum.  She has also judged a number of local and state science fairs.  Most recently, she served on the Judging Committee for the 2006 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair held in Indianapolis .  She is married to the Rev. Jason R. Breaux, and they have one daughter, Nia Soyini Mariama.

  Dawn A. Brooks, Ph.D.
Dawn received her doctorate in organic chemistry from Indiana University in 1998.  Dr. Brooks joined Eli Lilly and Company that year and is a co-inventor of a clinical candidate for diabetes that reached Phase III studies.  She has worked in both discovery and development at Lilly and is currently Director, Chemical Product R&D.  Dawn joined the Science Education Foundation of Indiana (SEFI) Executive Board in 2002 and served as the Lilly Judging Coordinator and Chemistry Caucus Leader for 2006 International Science and Engineering Fair.

  Howard Brooks, Ph. D.
Howard graduated Summa Cum Laude with honors in physics from William Jewell College in 1977.  He completed his M.S. (1979) and Ph.D. (1981) degrees in physics at the University of Missouri-Rolla.  His research there investigated the interaction of low energy electron swarms with gas mixtures containing iodine and mercuric bromide.  He joined the faculty at DePauw in 1981, where he is currently Professor of Physics and Astronomy.  He is active in the Indiana Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers and the Boy Scouts of America.  His current research program, Balloon Assisted Stratospheric Experiments (BASE), involves launching helium-filled weather balloons that carry small experimental payloads into the stratosphere.  The BASE program also involves upper elementary, middle, and high schools from the West Central Indiana area that design their own experiments for trips to near space.

  Rick Crosslin
Rick is the school liaison for science learning at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum and Science Teacher at MSD Wayne Township. He has received numerous awards recognizing him as an outstanding classroom teacher. His awards include a 2005 Emmy “Datacast Demonstration” Technical Achievement PBS WFYI, 2004 Indiana University School of Education Distinguished Alumni, 2001 Christa McAuliffe Fellow, the 1999 Hoosier Association of Science Teachers Inc. Distinguished Service Award, the 1998 Milken National Educator Award, the 1997 Indiana Exemplary Teacher Network Award, finalist for the 1996 Indiana Teacher of the Year, the 1996 MSD Wayne Township Teacher of the Year, and the 1990 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science. He is the founder and director of the Indianapolis Boys and Girls Clubs Super Summer Sa fari Science Camp.  Currently he is the camp director for the Diabetes Youth Foundation – Camp till the Cure summer science camp.  He has taught grades 3, 4, 6 and graduate courses for teachers in Indiana and Cairo , Egypt .  In addition, he has taught pre-school children at the Children’s Museum, adolescent teens at the Indiana Department of Correction Boys’ School, and intergenerational classes at Oasis centers.  He is the author of the monthly science section of the publication Inquisitive Kids, “Mr. C the Scienceman” where he shares his expertise and motto: This is science , don’t take my word for.  Try it yourself!

  Edward L. Frazier
Edward is Executive Director and Hoosier Association of Science Teachers, Inc. (HASTI). He is a retired high school biology teacher with forty years of experience. Edward has be actively involved with HASTI since 1974. He us the treasurer of the Indiana Academy of Science, professional parliamentarian and treasurer of the Indiana State Association of Parliamentarians.

  Peter T. Kissinger, Ph.D.
Peter is the chairman and CEO of Bioanalytical Systems, Inc. and Professor of Chemistry at Purdue University , West Lafayette , Indiana .  Dr. Kissinger received a B.S. in Chemistry (1966) from Union College , Schenectady , N.Y. and a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry (1970) from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill . Prior to joining the faculty at Purdue in 1975, Kissinger was a Research Associate at the University of Kansas (1970-1972) and an Assistant Professor at Michigan State University (1972-1975).  He founded BASi in 1974.  Headquartered in West Lafayette , Indiana , BASi also has operations in Evansville ; Baltimore ; McMinnville , OR ; and the U.K.   The company manufactures instrumentation and develops software for pharmaceutical research, and carries out contract chemical and toxicological research for the pharmaceutical industry.  BASi Vetronics manufactures instrumentation for veterinary medicine.  Dr. Kissinger’s academic research has involved the study of modern liquid chromatography techniques, and in vivo methodology for drug metabolism and the neurosciences.  Dr. Kissinger has published more than 230 scientific papers and is a Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.  In 2005, he became the Chairman of Prosolia and Tienta, two life science instrumentation companies.

  Karen M. Morris
A lifelong resident of the Mishawaka area, Karen is currently employed at the University of Notre Dame in the Dept. of Chemistry & Biochemistry.  Her role as Outreach Coordinator encompasses a variety of activities that include chemistry demonstration shows, coordinating on-campus science activities for various school groups, consulting with department faculty on science education issues and advising first year students in the General Chemistry Programs. In addition to this, Karen is the Executive Director of the Northern Indiana Regional Science and Engineering Fair, is the organizer of the annual Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics Career Conference for middle school girls and guides the new Sensing Our World summer science camp for middle school students at Notre Dame. A founding member of the Northern Indiana Science Math and Engineering Collaborative (NISMEC), Karen works with colleagues who have similar interests at Notre Dame, Saint Mary's College, IUSB and with other education professionals and groups in the area. Since the early 1990's, Karen has also aided local public and private K-12 teachers in the development of strategies and skills for implementing standards-based guided inquiry science curricula. Karen's work with guided inquiry materials (stemming from a 1999 - 2003 NSF grant) has provided her with many opportunities to teach science concepts to students in K - 12 classrooms.  Karen is currently a partner on a Math-Science Partnership grant with the School City of Mishawaka and has assisted in the implementation of its elementary science curriculum.  This assistance includes summer professional development workshops for School City of Mishawaka K-6 teachers. Karen is married and has two children - whom she enjoys cheering in their sporting, music and academic endeavors.  Karen also enjoys watching college and professional football, reading and gardening. When the weather cooperates, you might find Karen outside in the evenings with her telescope, sharing her love of the heavens with her family and the neighbors.

  Ms. M. Kathy Unland
Kathy has worked for Raytheon for more than 21 years in a variety of capacities, including materials engineering, business development, community relations, depot operations, Raytheon Six Sigma™, program management, and quality engineering. Kathy is passionate about giving young students opportunities to discover science in hands-on situations, and moved to Indiana from Southern California in 1997 to establish the Teacher’s Resource Center—a free resource with hands-on science and math kits for Indiana schools and organizations to borrow. Kathy is a Certified Raytheon Six Sigma™ Expert (equivalent to a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt), and a Certified Manager of Quality and Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) with the American Society for Quality (ASQ). She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and an MBA, both from California State University, Fullerton.

  Reba A.Weaver
Reba is currently retired from working at the Agrigultural Extension office where she worked for 16 years. She is involved in the Science Education Foundation of Indiana, Daughters of American Revolution, and P.E.O. Sisterhood.
